Last year’s Consumer Electronics Show brought some of the first third-party devices with Google Assistant — Google’s virtual helper had only been released a few months prior. This year, we saw a wide variety of devices running Assisant. Beyond the usual mix of smart lights and speakers, there are mirrors, electric car chargers, water systems, and even Insant Pots with Assistant.

For your reading enjoyment, this is every product announced at CES 2019 with Google Assistant (or Google Assistant integration), in no particular order.

The company also revealed a battery-powered smart water sensor (DCH-S161), which can detect leaks along a pipe, under a sink, or anywhere else you place it. Moen

Flo by Moen

Flo is a “water monitoring and leak detection system”, designed by faucet company Moen and Flo Technologies. It can provide information about water pressure, flow rate, and temperature within your home’s water supply system. It can be used through a mobile app, Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT.

The MSRP is listed at $767.70, but it’s currently available from Home Depot for $499.00.

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio & CULVER CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Did you know more than one trillion gallons of water can be lost each year across the U.S. due to water leaks in homes*? To bring awareness to this issue and help homeowners protect their property from water damage and waste, Moen, the leader in water experiences in the home, has partnered with Flo Technologies, a company whose purpose is to help prevent loss, one drip at a time, to launch Flo by Moen, a game-changing smart home water monitoring and leak detection system that enables homeowners to control their home’s water from their smartphones.

@Moen and @FloTechnologies announce partnership with launch of Flo by Moen water monitoring and leak detection system

Tweet this

Flo by Moen calculates water pressure, flow rate and temperature within your home’s water supply system while using AI to differentiate normal water use from abnormal use. This enables the device to monitor and help detect water leaks and other vulnerabilities.

“By making water smarter through innovation, we’re giving consumers the power to be proactive in protecting themselves from costly water damage, while offering an advanced solution for water conservation in the home,” said Michael Poloha, group manager, IoT, Moen. “The technology and preventative approach of Flo by Moen changes an industry which typically relies solely on moisture sensors or flow measurements to recognize problems after water has caused serious damage or been wasted. Unlike reactive systems, Flo by Moen runs daily tests on the home’s water supply system to help identify vulnerabilities, including microleaks or increased water pressure, both of which are early indicators of a potential catastrophic pipe bursts, mold behind walls and other types of water damage.”

“We estimate the Flo Technologies community has saved as much as two million gallons of water in 2018 alone. We’re excited to partner with Moen to bring this technology to even more homeowners across North America as we continue on our mission to help prevent water waste and damage in homes,” said Gabriel Halimi, CEO and co-founder of Flo Technologies. “Fixing leaks in the water supply lines could save homeowners more than 10 percent on their water bills*. Not only can Flo by Moen eventually pay for itself with the money it can save homeowners, but it’s also helping to conserve our freshwater resources that are currently wasted because of leaks in the home.”

How It Works

Flo by Moen is comprised of a Wi-Fi connected device that is installed on the main water supply line going into the home and connected to a smartphone app.

Through Flo Technologies’ proprietary MicroLeak technology, Flo by Moen can monitor and detect pipe leaks in the water supply system, some as small as a single drop of water per minute throughout the home— including behind walls or in the foundation. Additionally, the device’s temperature sensors provide early warnings if water in the home’s water supply system is approaching freezing, helping to avoid burst pipes.

Flo by Moen also features FloSense, a proprietary machine learning technology that applies algorithms to learn how the home uses water and alerts the homeowner, if and when, it senses abnormalities. In the instance a potential catastrophic issue is detected, and the homeowner fails to respond to alerts, the system can be set to automatically shut off the water to protect the home from flooding with water.

Flo by Moen App

The Flo by Moen app, available on iOS and Android devices, provides users with real-time information about their home’s water consumption habits and alerts to any abnormalities. Within the app, users can control how the system provides alerts and respond to potential issues. Alerts may be sent to users through push notifications, via email, or by text or phone call. The user also can turn off their water directly from the app. If the issue is critical, and the user isn’t responding, the system can be set to shut off the water automatically to protect the home. In addition to alerting users to issues, Flo by Moen provides troubleshooting tips and can recommend and contact a service professional. The system is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT.

Additionally, the Flo by Moen app helps users conserve water and reduce water bills with its sophisticated conservation program. At any time, homeowners can check their current water usage, compare to historical usage patterns, and set and monitor conservation goals within the app.

FloProtect

To provide homeowners with greater peace of mind, Flo Technologies also offers FloProtect, an optional subscription service available to all Flo by Moen users. For just $5 per month, FloProtect subscribers receive an additional layer of protection and benefits, including:

  • A water damage deductible guarantee. Flo Technologies will pay up to $2,500 towards an out-of-pocket homeowner’s insurance deductible. It’s Flo Technologies’ way of standing behind the effectiveness of the system.
  • Proactive monitoring by Flo Technologies’ experienced support team. Monitoring also includes Live Chat Support and access to Flo Technologies’ Water Concierge to answer questions about the home’s water system and help resolve water and plumbing issues.
  • An extended three-year product warranty.
  • Access to enhanced analysis and information about water usage, including usage per water fixture so homeowners can not only see how much water they’re using, but also where it’s being used.
  • A Flo Technologies Certified Letter for Insurance that may help reduce monthly homeowner’s insurance costs.

Flo by Moen is currently available in the U.S. and will be available in Canada later in 2019. For additional product details and purchase information, visit moen.com/flo.

CES 2019

Stop by booth #42337 (Sands, Halls A-D) at CES 2019 from January 8-11 to learn more about Flo by Moen and to see the product in action. Flo by Moen will also be on display at CES Unveiled at Mandalay Bay on January 6 and at Pepcom Digital Experience! at The Mirage on January 7.

TP-Link Kasa

TP-Link announced quite a few smart home products at CES, under its ‘Kasa’ brand. All of these are compatible with Google Assistant, Alexa, and other assistants/services.

Smart Video Doorbell

First is the Kasa Smart Video Doorbell (KD100), a product very similar to the Nest Hello. It has a 2K camera with HDR support, infrared LEDs for night vision, two-way communication, and face detection. The doorbell will likely launch in the first half of 2019, and pricing is unknown at this time.

Wire-Free Outdoor Security Camera System

Speaking of outdoor security, TP-Link also announced the Wire-Free Outdoor Security Camera System (KC300). It’s sold in a pack of one, two, or three cameras, and it supports 1080p recording with two-way audio and night vision. A hub isn’t required, but if you do connect one, battery life is extended. The hub also adds “audio recordings that mimic occupancy.” As with the video doorbell, the outdoor security system should launch in the first half of 2019, and pricing is unknown.

Spot Indoor Security Camera

If you need to protect the inside of your house as well, TP-Link also revealed the Spot Indoor Security Camera (KC100). It has 130-degree 1080p recording, two-way audio, and support for multiple activity zones. TP-Link says you’ll be able to view a live feed on an Alexa smart display (like the Echo Show) or a Google Assistant smart display (like the Home Hub). The camera is expected to be released sometime this spring for $49.99.

Wi-Fi smart outlets

Moving onto smart outlets, TP-Link has a new one designed for outdoor use — the Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug (KP400). It has two plugs and is weather-resistant, but otherwise works identically to the company’s indoor plugs. TP-Link also announced the Wi-Fi Power Outlet (KP200), which replaces the power socket in your wall. The former is expected to cost $44.99, and the latter will be $39.99. Both products should be available in February.

Wi-Fi LED Light Strip

The Wi-Fi LED Light Strip (KL430) should be released sometime in the first half of 2019. It’s two meters long (6.6 ft), can be extended to up to 10 meters (32.8 ft), has eight controllable light sections, and supports multiple lighting effects.

Light Switch with Voice Assistant

The last product TP-Link announced is a bit strange — the Wi-Fi Light Switch with Voice Assistant (HS230). It’s a light switch with a built-in speaker and microphone for interacting with a voice assistant (the company told us they haven’t decided between Alexa or Google Assistant). Whatever lights the switch are connected to also become smart lights. It’s expected to launch in the first half of 2019.

The KitchenAid Smart Display will likely go on sale in the second half of 2019, and cost somewhere between $200 and $300.

WLabs Smart Countertop Oven

The latest product to come out of WLabs, an ‘innovation incubator’ in Whirlpool, is the Smart Countertop Oven. It’s large enough to cook an entire chicken or a 12-inch pizza, and offers cooking status notifications and integration with Google Assistant and Alexa.

It will be available for pre-order “in a limited quanity” at WLab’s website, with an MSRP of $799.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — WLabs™, Whirlpool Corporation’s innovation incubator, will be introducing its latest smart kitchen solution in 2019: the Smart Countertop Oven. Engineered to fit easily on your counter, the Smart Countertop Oven’s leading food identification technology automatically recognizes various types of food placed inside, and sets the time and temperature needed for a personalized and optimal result.

“This new smart oven is about making cooking easier, intuitive and customized. It takes the guesswork out of cooking,” said Doug Searles, general manager for WLabs. “The oven also demonstrates how at WLabs, we harness the 107-year heritage of Whirlpool Corporation in the home appliance industry, and apply that expertise to develop innovations that truly break the mold and unlock the next generation of products for the home.”

The oven’s food identification technology automatically recognizes the food type and temperature for select foods, and selects the appropriate cooking algorithm designed specifically for that food. The algorithm controls the time and temperature for perfectly cooked broccoli, chicken, pizza and more, regardless of whether it’s frozen or fresh. The powerful convection heating system eliminates the need to preheat for certain food types and maintains a uniform temperature throughout the oven to evenly cook the food.

The Smart Countertop Oven is engineered to be small enough to fit on your counter, yet large enough to cook a whole chicken or a 12-inch pizza. It features a touch-screen interface, stainless steel interior, and comes with a wooden cutting board.

Other appliance features include:*

  • Live-look-in for those who can’t resist checking in on their dinner and real-time monitoring
  • Cooking status notifications via mobile and the ability to adjust from anywhere in the home
  • A smart food thermometer to ensure your food is perfectly cooked all the way through
  • Multifunctionality, engaging the oven’s 11 cooking modes – bake, broil, convection bake, convection roast, toast, reheat, proof, dehydrate, air fry, slow cook and keep warm – to get your dish to its ideal taste and texture
  • One-touch start to reduce confusion in choosing between broil or bake
  • Preheat times that are built into cooking algorithms for most foods, reducing the lag time between starting your appliance and inserting the food
  • Scan-to-cook technology that allows users to easily cook some of their frozen favorites**
  • Voice activation using the Google Assistant or an Amazon Alexa to keep your hands-free †

Whirlpool Smart All-in-One Washer & Dryer

This bad boy can wash and dry clothes without any human intervention, with automatic detergent measurement and remote access through a mobile app. It’s available to purchase now, but the Google Asistant and Alexa integration won’t arrive until later this year.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Whirlpool engineers are always seeking new ways for their appliances to remove extra steps from the laundry routine in order to help people spend more time caring elsewhere. Their solution is the new Whirlpool® Smart All-in-One Washer and Dryer, a CES® 2019 Innovation Award Honoree that completes a load of laundry in the same machine, allowing for one load to be completely washed and dried without moving items from the washer to the dryer. Now available for purchase, Whirlpool brand’s newly upgraded laundry unit features smart laundry capabilities through the Whirlpool® app, and coming soon in 2019, voice control with a compatible voice-enabled device will be available to make laundry easier from start to finish.*

“Removing little steps in our daily routines makes a surprisingly big difference, especially when laundry can keep you tethered to appliances all day,” said Nelly Martínez Garza, laundry brand manager, Whirlpool brand. “We’re changing how laundry is done with the new Whirlpool Smart All-In-One Washer and Dryer, which eliminates transfer between the washer and dryer. The technology allows families to get a load of laundry done – wash to dry – without multiple trips to the laundry room.”

Each feature of the Whirlpool® Smart All-In-One Washer & Dryer is designed to remove guesswork and provide the right care for each load, helping families do laundry seamlessly from start to finish. Features include:

  • Load & Go™ XL Plus Dispenser: Add a few extra minutes back into a busy day by skipping a step – measuring and filling detergent. Simply add detergent and fabric softener once and skip refills for 40 loads.† Automatic dispensing ensures each load gets the right amount of detergent, at the right time, giving clothing precise fabric care.
  • Voice Control with Compatible Voice-Enabled Device: Coming soon in 2019, you will be able to keep up with laundry no matter what, even when in the middle of cooking dinner, with simple voice commands using a Google Assistant or an Amazon Alexa-enabled device. You will be able to access features of the Whirlpool® Smart All-In-One Washer & Dryer from the comfort of the living room using Amazon Alexa and Google Home, or Apple Watch.‡.
  • Smart Laundry Capabilities with the Whirlpool® app: When enjoying time with family, consumers can still control the Whirlpool® Smart All-In-One Washer & Dryer through a smartphone with the enhanced connection features from the Whirlpool® app. Through the app, families can program their laundry cycle to get the desired outcome every time by keeping laundry moving from start to finish. Some innovative connected capabilities include:
    • Launching in 2019, Task Manager: Manage laundry day from anywhere. The Whirlpool® app will allow users to assign family members tasks like transferring a load to the dryer or folding clean clothes, which they’ll receive a notification about on their smart mobile devices.
    • Coming soon, Amazon Dash Replenishment, allowing users to automatically reorder laundry supplies from Amazon when running low so supplies never run out.

From January 8-11, CES® attendees can get up close to all Whirlpool Corporate innovations at booth #41925 in the Smart Home section, located at the Sands Expo Center.

From birds fluttering overhead to helicopters swirling above and around, the new VIZIO systems feature Dolby Atmos audio technology to further draw viewers into their entertainment. Engineered with cinephiles and gamers in mind, each system pushes rich sound from the bar’s front left and right channels, expanding the soundstage. A separate center channel enables crystal-clear dialogue, while powerful wireless subwoofers produce room-shaking bass. The 36″ 5.1.4 features rear surround sound and is complete with a six-inch subwoofer. The 36″ 3.1.2 features a newly designed, powerful slim subwoofer that provides consumers another configuration option to suit a variety of entertainment setups. The slim subwoofer conveniently tucks underneath a sofa, or can easily be hidden in a corner for an overall clean aesthetic while still providing deep bass. VIZIO’s latest sound bar systems with Dolby Atmos feature Chromecast built-in, allowing users to stream music from favorite audio apps like Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio and Google Play Music1. The 36″ 5.1.4 and 36″ 3.1.2 solutions also offer voice-control support for Google Assistant, allowing users to control their sound bars using only their voice. While Bluetooth® is integrated into all VIZIO audio products, streaming over a Wi-Fi connection allows listeners to control playback over a greater range compared to Bluetooth, in addition to experiencing higher quality audio without interruptions from texts or phone calls.

Daikin

Daikin One+ Thermostat

The North American branch of Daikin announced its own smart thermostat at CES, the One+. In addition to adjusting the temperature, it also can serve as a controller for a professional HVAC system, making it a great option for office buildings. Daikin also plans to offer indoor air quality modules and other components that can interact with the One+, and the system supports Alexa and Google Assistant.

HOUSTON & LAS VEGAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Daikin North America LLC today introduced The Daikin One+™ smart thermostat, an architecturally-inspired intelligent home air management controller. Beyond a typical smart thermostat, it is a controller for a full professional HVAC system with a growing ecosystem of air quality modules to give consumers more control over the air they breathe and a premium HVAC experience.

Daikin, the world’s largest heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) manufacturer, is a global innovator of advanced solutions for residential, commercial and industrial applications for 90+ years. With the introduction of the Daikin One™ ecosystem, Daikin is up-ending the status quo in the HVAC market, where players have been conservative in adopting IoT technologies and, until recently, relegated leadership in the smart thermostat category to consumer electronics brands.

The Daikin One+ smart thermostat is the first smart thermostat to offer full two-way communications and serves as a cloud-connected hub and controller for sophisticated, communicating HVAC systems. In combination with Daikin’s smart inverter HVAC systems, such as the Daikin FIT™ system, the Daikin One ecosystem of indoor air quality modules provides an unparalleled, integrated solution for temperature control and air quality. It allows people to “Visualize the Air™” inside their home and reacts on cues to provide a premium indoor air environment. That’s “Air Intelligence™.”

The Daikin One+ smart thermostat is different from other smart thermostats in four ways:

1. It’s not just a switch to turn the HVAC system on and off. Other smart thermostats from consumer electronics companies lack the protocols to communicate with HVAC equipment. And, while some other HVAC manufacturers offer custom controllers, they lack sophisticated user interface and physical design.

2. In combination with the Daikin One ecosystem, it offers indoor air quality modules, including the Daikin One air cleaner, Daikin One home air monitor and Daikin One zone monitor that all work together seamlessly. For example, homeowners are notified when a contaminant event occurs and have the option to run the HVAC system to help reduce contaminants.

3. Because of its intelligence, the Daikin One+ smart thermostat enables users to set different temperatures in different zones of a home, keeping residents comfortable wherever they are in the home.

4. The thermostat interface lets a user decide how to control a home’s temperature in two different ways: digital and analog. Daikin offers both technologies for simple and sophisticated control, in one elegantly designed thermostat.

Re-imagining the thermostat: Applying world-class design for extraordinary simplicity and premium experience

The Daikin One+ smart thermostat was beautifully crafted and designed in collaboration with one of the consumer electronics industry’s and Silicon Valley’s leading industrial product designers, Fred Bould of Bould Design. Bould, the designer of many iconic consumer devices, worked in cooperation with Dubberly Design Office to develop a state-of-the-art user interface with Daikin engineers in Houston.

The thermostat design features a double square structure that pairs a sophisticated high-resolution digital color touch screen on the left side with the proven functionality of a classic analog dial control on the right side. This arrangement reflects well-established patterns of cognitive interaction (reading from left to right). For fast, on-the-go temperature adjustments, the dial is the perfect tool. For more involved control, such as setting a schedule, a refined capacitive touch interface offers an easy-to-understand menu system. A simple touch on the display reveals access to the full range of settings.

New and casual users see the current temperature, turn the dial, and see the set points. But just taps away are other key features — scheduled set-point changes, energy-saving “away” set-points and air quality readings. Users can also opt for user-friendly mobile applications and voice control via leading voice assistance platforms. Professional contractors can go even deeper into operations, but these settings are kept well out of the way of casual users.

Reinforcing the touch interface experience is a thin light strip that projects an orange or blue glow underneath the thermostat to indicate the current system mode: orange for heating, blue for cooling. A proximity sensor wakes the thermostat on approach to be ready for input.

Daikin took the same level of care with design and development of the user interface, companion mobile app and contractor installation app.

“Daikin’s philosophy is one of simplicity. Fitness-for-purpose. Craftsmanship. Thoroughness. A feeling of calm,” said Dennis Thoren, VP of technology strategy for Daikin. “We explicitly designed the Daikin One+ smart thermostat for three different audiences: casual users who simply want to change the temperature; homeowners who are concerned about maximizing efficiency and customizing settings to their needs, and finally, it had to work for our professional contractors, the folks installing the system, who have sophisticated technical needs.”

Inside the Daikin One+ smart thermostat

An integrated Wi-Fi radio connects to the homeowner app through the internet, while a sub-GHz radio gathers data from remote sensors and talks to other thermostats in the home to support independent zone control. Dual processors allow the thermostat to connect with other thermostats and the companion app, gather data from remote sensors and maintain two-way communication with the HVAC equipment to control the whole system. Geo-fencing automatically reduces energy use and saves money when no one is home, and the device supports utility demand-response programs to further reduce energy expenses.

The Daikin One cloud also seamlessly integrates with open smart home architectures including Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It has an open application programming interface (API) for other home automation platforms, allowing consumers to effortlessly use features such as voice control. Further, Daikin’s One cloud will allow utilities to reduce power demand simply and effectively using OpenADR 2.0 protocol that allows consumers to benefit through lower electricity bills.

McAfee currently offers a ‘Secure Home’ platform for companies to integrate into their routers, for some reason. At CES, the company announced that Google Assistant is now integrated into its Secure Home platform. McAfee Secure Home Platform provides a built-in layer of security that automatically protects internet-connected devices on the home network from a variety of threats and delivers comprehensive parental controls. As people bring Internet of Things (IoT) devices into their homes for increased convenience and efficiency, the amount of information shared with and collected by these gadgets also increases. As a result, consumers must think about security not only for protecting traditional devices like PCs, laptops and smartphones, but also for connected home items, like smart appliances, gaming consoles and more.

“From connected toasters to smart TVs consumers are enjoying the conveniences associated with the IoT devices as they enhance their everyday lives, but so are cybercriminals,” said Shailaja Shankar, general manager, mobile and ISP business units, McAfee. “For that reason, consumers must evolve their approach to cybersecurity to keep pace with today’s rapidly-changing environment. In an increasingly connected home, managing security must be simple. The McAfee Secure Home Platform Actions for the Google Assistant empowers consumers with an easy way to manage their home’s network security using their voice.”

Consumers can use their voice to manage McAfee Secure Home Platform features with Google Assistant-enabled devices. A partial list of voice commands includes:

  • “Hey Google, how many devices are connected to my home router network” – This provides users with the number of devices connected to the network
  • “Hey Google, scan my home router network” – This will scan IoT/connected devices on the network for known weaknesses

Designed to replace a traditional 100W light bulb, the Sengled Smart LED extra-bright 100W replacement bulb is the first-to-market 100 watt replacement smart bulb with 1500 lumens and the traditional A19 form factor. The high light output combined with the traditional A19 size means consumers can seamlessly swap any 100W light bulb with this smart bulb and not compromise the overall light level in that space. Like other Sengled Smart LED (Sengled Element) bulbs, users can set schedules and routines and monitor energy savings using the Sengled Home app.

In addition to announcing this industry first smart bulb, Sengled is unveiling other lighting products so consumers can not only do more, but also play more and know more with smart lighting. The unveiling of the Sengled Smart LED Multicolor Lightstrip and Sengled Smart Wi-Fi Multicolor A19 bulb add new, simple ways for consumers to play with 16 million colors. The Sengled Smart LED with Motion Sensor, also being showcased at CES, combines two devices – floodlight and motion sensor – to help alert users of what is going on around their homes.

Sengled Smart LED Multicolor Lightstrip offers 16 million color options to choose from, allowing users to create the desired ambiance for any activity in any room. Customers can use the Sengled Home app to set up schedules to turn lights on and off automatically.

Similar to the Lightstrip, Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED Multicolor A19 Bulb allows users to play more with lighting with the ability to choose from 16 million colors and thousands of whites. With no hub required, they can simply connect the bulb to their existing Wi-Fi network.

In addition to the new multicolor Smart LED products, Sengled will also be showcasing another CES 2019 Innovation Award Honoree in the Smart Home category product at CES – the Sengled Smart LED with Motion Sensor. This outdoor security light integrates the smart control of the Sengled Smart LED (Sengled Element) lighting platform with PIR motion sensor technology, combining the functionality of two devices into one. At 1200 lumens, this bright PAR38 floodlight LED offers bright lighting for outdoor lighting applications around the home.

Finally, Sengled will be adding both a Sengled Smart Switch and Sengled Smart Sensor to its growing portfolio. The Sengled Smart Switch is a wireless switch that allows users to easily turn the lights on and off or adjust the brightness with the familiarity of a simple remote control. And, the Sengled Smart Sensor can be placed on doors or windows, automatically controlling lights when motion is detected.

Users of all these new and existing Sengled smart lighting products can use the Sengled Home app to control the lights at home or when away, set routines to turn lights on/off automatically and monitor electricity use for each light. In addition, and as with all Sengled smart light bulbs, users can connect to the lights to Alexa and Google Assistant devices to control via voice. The addition of the Sengled Smart Switch and Sengled Smart Sensor add more ways to control Sengled lights. Sengled Smart LED lights can also be linked to other smart home hubs like SmartThings and Wink.

“Our new product announcements demonstrate how Sengled is continuing to push the limits of what is possible with smart lighting,” said Johnson Shen, Sengled CEO. “But we’re not just pushing limits because we can, rather, we’re aiming to release new products that allow people to do more with smart lighting. From truly illuminating a room with the brightest of lights, to allowing people to play with 16 million different colors to set the right ambiance, with Sengled lights everyone can now create the right lighting for them and their home. And we’re making sure that it truly is for everyone, with simple, easy set up and connection to favorite devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.”

Sengled will be showcasing their lighting range including these industry-first products at CES Unveiled on Sunday, January 6, 2019. You can also visit Sengled on the CES show floor (Sands Expo, Level 2, Booth #42537).

Sylvania

Sylvania Smart

Sylvania’s smart home products are a bit unusual — instead of connecting over Wi-Fi or another wide-range wireless protocol, the company’s products use a mesh Bluetooth network. At CES, Sylvania announced its smart bulbs can now work with Google Assistant, assuming an Android device with Sylvania’s app is within range of the mesh network.

WILMINGTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–LEDVANCE, the maker of SYLVANIA general lighting in the United States, is expanding its portfolio of easy-to-use SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth lighting to benefit Android users in the US. Launched early 2017, the HomeKit™-enabled SYLVANIA SMART+ Full Color A19 LED light bulb was the first to be easily controlled via Siri® and the Apple® Home app without a separate hub. Now, with an Android device in the home in range, new SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth LED lighting products work with the Google Assistant™ or Amazon Alexa via the new SYLVANIA Smart Home app on Google Play, providing hands-free lighting control for Android users without requiring any additional hardware.

SYLVANIA SMART+ lighting expands to offer simple setup, control and convenience for Android users

Android users can also benefit from Bluetooth mesh technology. If they have multiple SYLVANIA Bluetooth mesh devices, they can control the SYLVANIA lights in another room, on the next floor, or even outside their home thanks to the ability of mesh devices to relay commands and information between each other, effectively extending the control range of their phones. With Bluetooth mesh devices, users can also take advantage of increased reliability and scalability with a limited delay in response when controlling individual or groups of lights together.

“No matter which system or phone you have, with SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth LED lighting products you can count on simple setup, control and convenience,” said Alberto Pierotti, Head of SMART and Head of R&D for US and Canada, LEDVANCE. “These are the first products to work with all three voice assistants from Apple, Amazon and Google using Bluetooth or Bluetooth mesh.”

The new SYLVANIA Smart Home app available on Google Play gives Android users easy control of popular features such as turning lights on and off, grouping their lights, adjusting the brightness level, and changing colors with Full Color products.

While other smart lighting products require a gateway or rely on a Wi-Fi router as a hub controlled by Siri, Alexa or the Google Assistant, SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth LED lighting products eliminate the need for additional hardware and provide simplified control – nothing more, nothing less. These are perfect for high school or college students who want to personalize their bedrooms, dorms rooms or apartments, or anyone who wants to enjoy the convenience of smart lighting.

“People have always told us that they like the benefits of smart lighting but want it to be easier to setup and use. We accomplished this when we launched our HomeKit-enabled SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth lighting products,” said Pierotti. “Now, we are offering that same ease-of-use and convenience to Android users with smart lighting that requires nothing more than a mobile device and a free app. These are the world’s first and only Bluetooth mesh connected lighting products that provide the long range, low power and high reliability that smart home customers want.”

Apple users can control their lights from the Apple Home app on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch® or Apple Watch®, by using Siri on any device including HomePod™, or directly from Control Center. Outside the home, a HomeKit home hub (HomePod, 4th generation Apple TV® or an iPad with the latest version of iOS) can remotely control these units and set up automations.

Six SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth products are available for integration with the SYLVANIA Smart Home App. They are the SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth A19 Soft White, A19 Full Color, A19 Filament, BR30 Soft White, BR30 Full Color, and Indoor Full Color Flex Strip. Products are available on Amazon, select Home Depot locations and homedepot.com, Menards and menards.com, and other retailers. The SYLVANIA SMART+ Bluetooth In Wall Switch and Plug, in addition to an iOS version of the app, will come at a later date.

SolarEdge

EV Single Phase Inverter

SolarEdge announced at CES that its home charging station for electric cars, the EV Single Phase Inverter, is now integrated with Google Assistant. The charger claims to top up electric cars “up to six times faster than standard Level 1 chargers.” Owners of the system can now start/stop EV charging using Google Assistant, and additional functionality is planned for the future, like checking the car’s battery capacity and scheduling a charge.

Fremont, CA and Las Vegas, NV – SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. (“SolarEdge”) (NASDAQ: SEDG), a global leader in smart energy technology, announced today that electric vehicle (EV) consumers can now control SolarEdge’s EV-charging solar inverter using the Google Assistant. SolarEdge is one of the first companies to integrate EV charging with the Google Assistant. SolarEdge offers the world’s first EV charging solar inverter, which offers up to six times faster charging than standard Level 1 chargers through its innovative solar boost mode. The smart speaker integration with the Google Assistant makes EV charging simpler for consumers and answers demand for smart energy solutions.

Consumers can now tell the Google Assistant to start and stop EV charging. SolarEdge plans to add functionality to the Google Assistant commands, including inquiring about charging status, checking average miles charged in the charging session, and pre-schedule charging.

Dish

Dish Hopper DVR

Last year, Dish added Google Assistant compatibility to its lineup of Hopper DVRs. You could ask Assistant to turn off/on the box, change the channel, rewind a show, and so on. At CES, the company announced that Google Assistant will be baked directly into its DVRs. The Hopper, Joey, and Walley boxes will all get Assistant — as long as they also have a voice remote.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — DISH today announced that it’s building the Google Assistant into its Hopper family of receivers. In the coming months, customers will be able to use the DISH voice remote to ask the Assistant to control smart home devices, provide weather and news updates, display photos and more. This new integration builds on the DISH voice remote’s existing ability to control the TV experience, including navigation, search and content selection.

Hopper with the Google Assistant built-in will join DISH’s voice control technology suite, which includes its July 2018 integration with the Google Assistant that requires users to pair Hopper with a Google Assistant device, like speakers, phones and more, to control their TV.

“Our customers love the convenience of voice control, so we’re expanding functionality to make it even more powerful,” said Niraj Desai, DISH vice president of product management. “As a DISH subscriber, you will soon get the Google Assistant and all its incredible features – like adjusting your thermostat, managing your calendar or simply asking for the latest news – for free, right on your TV.”

With the Google Assistant built-in on Hopper, customers will be able to use the DISH voice remote to ask the Assistant questions and see answers on the screen like the weather forecast or games scores. Users will also be able to control smart home devices, such as dimming the lights or adjusting the thermostat, and relive favorite memories by pulling up Google Photos on the TV screen – all with their voice.

Customers with a DISH voice remote and broadband-connected Hopper (all generations), Joey (all models) or Wally will have access to the Google Assistant. New DISH customers receive the voice remote with all Hopper family receivers at no extra cost; current customers without a voice remote can upgrade for $20.

Leviton

Decora Wi-Fi Outlets

TP-Link wasn’t the only company that brought in-wall smart outlets to CES. Leviton revealed its own ‘Decora’ Wi-Fi outlet, compatible with both Google Assistant and Alexa. If you don’t want another device connected to your home internet, Leviton is also making a Z-Wave model. Both versions are expected to go on sale in mid-2019.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Leviton, a leading provider of wireless smart home technology and electrical wiring devices, announced today development of two new devices for homeowners to control their lamps, small appliances and other electronics – the Decora Smart Wi-Fi In-Wall Receptacle and the Decora Smart Z-Wave Plus In-Wall Receptacle. The Z-Wave Plus model integrates with compatible Z-Wave automation hubs, gateways and bridges, and the Decora Smart Wi-Fi receptacle will be the newest addition to the Decora Smart Wi-Fi family of lighting controls.

The smart outlets feature a top outlet that can be controlled and a bottom outlet that is always on for 24/7 power applications – important for clocks, phone chargers and other electrical devices which must remain on. Both Decora Smart Receptacles also include a manual button for local on/off control.

The Leviton Decora Smart Receptacles are perfect for new home builds or can easily replace an existing outlet in any home – simply exchange any standard outlet for the new Leviton Decora Smart Receptacle. The attractive visual aesthetic fits within the familiar Leviton Decora style, especially when used with screwless wallplates. Each receptacle also includes tamper resistant shutters to meet installation code and provide additional protection from electrical shock.

Multiple Decora Smart Receptacles can be installed within the same residence as part of a whole home lighting control system and can provide a variety of control possibilities. For instance, a homeowner can use an app to turn on a fan plugged into the smart outlet in an office while a smart receptacle in a bedroom could provide on/off schedules for a bedside lamp. For new construction, electricians can install a Decora Smart Receptacle in a kitchen to simplify control of a coffee pot or tea kettle, so homeowners have peace of mind that they can turn these appliances off even after they’ve left the house.

“Leviton has long-offered automated in-wall receptacles, so we’re eager to announce a fresh aesthetic featuring Z-Wave Plus for our customers using a Z-Wave hub,” said Tom Morgan, director of product management for Leviton Energy Management, Controls & Automation.

“On the heels of the successful DW15P Mini Plug-In Launch, Leviton is excited to announce the Decora Smart Wi-Fi In-Wall Receptacle for customers looking to build an integrated smart lighting system,” said Aaron Ard, senior director of engineering for Leviton Energy Management, Controls & Automation. “While smart plugs are attractive for their ease of use, in-wall devices offer a built-in smart home solution for homeowners that homebuilders can recommend and their electricians can install.”

Homeowners can create schedules and scenes with the Decora Smart Wi-Fi Receptacle and other Leviton Wi-Fi lighting controls when they are enrolled through the award-winning My Leviton app – no hub required. Simply install the Wi-Fi outlet and connect with the My Leviton app to begin automating devices or to connect with Works with My Leviton partners such as Nest, If This Then That (IFTTT), Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

The Decora Smart Wi-Fi Receptacle and the Decora Smart Z-Wave Plus Receptacle are both expected to be available mid-2019.

  • Create a schedule for the Decora Voice Dimmer along with other Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices to dim, brighten, turn on, or turn off throughout the day by easily setting a sunrise, sunset, or time-specific schedule for each device.
  • Add the Decora Voice Dimmer to any lighting scene, such as “Movie Time,” so the Decora Voice and Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices work together to illuminate the room for the best viewing experience.
  • Use the My Leviton app from anywhere to dim or brighten lights connected to Decora Voice.
  • Take the experience even further by leveraging Works with My Leviton partnerships including Google Assistant, Nest, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT and more to build out a complete voice-controlled smart home.

At its core, the hub-less Leviton Decora Voice Dimmer offers best-in-class lighting control performance using Leviton’s “Off Means Off” technology for low-wattage LED bulbs along with custom settings for fade rates, bulb types, and more. Also, just like Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices, the Decora Voice Dimmer includes 3-way compatibility, providing dimming control of the same fixture from multiple locations, such as a stairway or a kitchen with multiple dimmers that control the same set of light bulbs.

Leviton has partnered with the best in the industry to build Decora Voice, including NXP with its high-performance processor and Harman to develop and optimize device acoustics. Decora Voice was designed and engineered by Leviton’s Innovation Center in the USA.

The Decora Voice Dimmer is expected to be available mid-2019.

Decora Wi-Fi 4-Button Controller

Leviton’s final CES announcement was this 4-button controller, which can be configured to different actions in the ‘My Leviton’ mobile app. You can turn all the lights in your house on or off with a press, or switch to a pre-defined scene. This is expected to be released in mid-2019.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Leviton, a leading provider of wireless smart home technology and electrical wiring devices, announced today development of a new Decora Smart 4-Button Wi-Fi Controller. The sophisticated in-wall solution provides more options for controlling multiple Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices, including room scenes and whole house lighting activities. An addition to the Decora Smart Wi-Fi product family, the 4-Button Controller can be paired with the My Leviton app and Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices to create a whole home lighting control system.

As part of the My Leviton platform, the 4-Button Controller uses the award-winning My Leviton app, allowing electrical contractors or homeowners to easily orchestrate a home’s lighting scenes for “All Off”, “Movie Time” or activities such as “Go to Bed”. The custom lighting scenes can include any existing Decora Smart Wi-Fi product, including the recently announced Decora Voice Dimmer with Amazon Alexa Built-In. Scenes can be activated easily via the new 4-Button In-Wall Controller, the My Leviton app or with your voice using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Multiple 4-Button Controllers can be utilized within the same home, most often placed in the foyer, master bedroom, garage, living room and other commonly used spaces to provide single-button convenience.

Many users will enjoy the simplicity of pressing an “All Off” button which could turn off every connected light in the house.  Others will opt to customize their buttons for different lighting needs such as: “Food Prep”, “Dinner”, “Clean-Up” or “Party Time”, with each button offering a different lighting scene to set the mood for each occasion.

“Custom scene interfaces have been an attractive option for many years in high-end homes, so Leviton is thrilled to simplify the installation and set-up through Wi-Fi to bring this formerly cost-prohibitive feature to every home,” said Tom Morgan, director of product management for Leviton Energy Management, Controls, & Automation. “While voice control and apps are wonderful additions to the home, the 4 button keypad bridges the gap, allowing the user to enjoy different lighting scenes with the simple push of a button.”

Using the My Leviton app, Decora Smart Wi-Fi product line provides time-based schedules, free remote control from anywhere and optional integrated voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Winning over two-dozen awards since its launch, the entire Decora Smart product family, including switches, dimmers and other plug-in modules, provides even further customization with home and away occupancy modes, auto-shutoff countdown timers, integration with Nest, If This, Then That (IFTTT) compatibility and multi-home support.

Upon downloading the My Leviton app for Android and iOS, users can add Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi or Decora Voice devices and create schedules and activities based on specific times or on-demand events that can run manually at their discretion. Advanced settings are also available for professionals and consumers alike to adjust fade rates, brightness levels, bulb types, LED functionality, countdown timers and more, to personalize every aspect of a homeowner’s environment for each fixture, room and residence.

The Decora Smart with Wi-Fi 4-Button Controller is expected to be available mid-2019.

Simplehuman

Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi Assist

If you want a smart mirror, and the above-mentioned Kholer Verdera mirror is slightly out of your price range, Simplehuman has a smaller (and cheaper) option. The ‘Sensor Miror Hi-Fi Assist’ is a small bathroom mirror with the company’s “proprietary tru-lux light system” and a custom 2.5-inch accoustic driver. In addition to functioning as a Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 speaker, it also has Google Assistant built-in.

The mirror will go on sale this spring for $400, and a version without Google Assistant will be $350.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Sight meets sound as simplehuman today announces its latest product innovations, the Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi and Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi Assist, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The two new sensor mirrors combine the best lighting with quality audio, expanding its line of vanity mirrors and signifying the company’s continued disruption in the cosmetic accessories category.

“We successfully designed our first generation of mirrors by creating the best, most color-correct view,” said simplehuman CEO and Founder Frank Yang. “The new Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi and Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi Assist models dramatically raise the bar by combining our tru-lux light with superb audio to enhance your morning routine — from makeup application to listening to your favorite music, our next generation of mirrors were developed to revolutionize your morning routine.”

Both mirrors boast simplehuman’s proprietary tru-lux light system with 95 CRI (color rendering index), which closely simulates natural sunlight shedding enhanced visibility on the subtle variations in makeup color. Both models introduce “night shift,” a first-to-market setting that shifts to softer, more-relaxing light to promote better sleep, in addition to “candlelight” and “nightlight” modes offering greater variation.

As for audio, the mirrors’ finely-tuned optimum-acoustics speaker delivers crystal-clear high-fidelity sound. Its custom Danish-designed 2.5-inch acoustic driver produces smooth, well-balanced sound that fills up the entire room.  The connected audio capability streams sound over Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi for devices operating AirPlay® 2, which allows for uninterrupted texts and calls while listening as well as pairing with other speaker systems in the home.

Both models work in tandem with the simplehuman app, which unlocks additional features for setting alarms as well as increased control over sound, lighting and sensor activity. And the Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi Assist model works with the Google Assistant, enabling hands-free vocal commands of certain audio functions.

“The mirror automatically lights up when you approach so we integrated the Google Assistant as a second layer of access to easily get the weather, news and other useful intel with just voice commands,” Yang said.  “It’s extremely intuitive – now you can start the day stress-free while getting ready with tru-lux lighting.”

Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi and Sensor Mirror Hi-Fi Assist will be available in spring 2019 for a suggested retail price of $350 and $400 respectively at simplehuman.com and brick-and-mortar retailers nationwide.
